It wants for nothing and is supplied ready to hang and display.<br> The painting is signed lower left.<br> <br> A popular and acclaimed contemporary Welsh based artist, David Knight was born in Essex in 1965, but has lived in Wales most of his life. He is currently living and working in Cardiff. <br> <br> Knight studied Fine Art at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff and graduated with a BA in 1996. He paints the changing moods of the Welsh landscape, ghostly enigmatic figures and – the subject for which he is perhaps best-known, beautiful delicate nudes.<br> <br> He is inspired by a long history of figurative painting; “I’ve always been influenced by figures, whoever painted them and in whatever form, but especially work by Rodin, John Singer Sargeant and Michelangelo “he says, “I love muscular human form. It’s sculptural in itself; I think most of my work is sculptural – I don’t know why I paint – I should be doing sculpture!”, he laughs. “I think the body is a fascinating and beautiful subject to work from, I never get bored of painting it”.<br> <br> In recent years Knight has had regular shows at several major provincial galleries, including the Albany Gallery, Cardiff, St. David’s Hall, Cardiff – both Summer and Christmas exhibitions, the Wiseman Gallery, Oxford and the Campden Gallery, Gloucestershire.<br> <br> He was voted “People’s Choice” in Welsh Artist of the Year 2000 and has won “Best Painting” at the 9th Annual St David’s Hall Christmas Exhibition. His work is both current and collectable.<br> <br> © Big Sky Fine Art<br> <br> This original oil on canvas depicts a single female nude, lying on a sheet on ruffled white linen. She is a brunette, white skinned, but tanned and her skin has a soft sheen. She lies on her side with her back to the viewer, breasts half hidden by her right arm, but her legs and bottom largely exposed. There is an undeniable tension in the painting, the subject looks up with a thoughtful expression and one wonders whether we have infringed on her modesty, or should admire her beauty.
